Black angel is correct.
1 gallon = 4 . 55 litres

The joys of multiple measuring systems. :D

1 UK gallon = 4.5 liters
1 US gallon = 3.78 liters

Try this very useful tool. It's a free download and has every practical and impractial measuring comparison you can think of.

Google is great ... try googling for
what's a gallon?

It will give you the litres in bold at the top of the page :D
what's an UK gallon? will give you the answer to it being UK gallons rather than US :)

I try to keep things simple and just say every gallon is approx. 4 litres. The 0.5 litres up or down realy don't make a difference. I mean, if they did, we'd all be calculating displacement by gravel, internal filters, heaters, fish and ornaments etc obsessively. A 1 gallon, regardless of whether it's US or UK, is realy too small for any fish IMO anyway.

Yeah but when you start adding gallons up, the difference can really become appearent.
