i have a 1 gallon i had for my betta thats sitting there. one of my sailfin mollies is pregnant (no idea how far along) and i was wondering if i can put her in there when she gets bigger to let her have the babies. i have some fish in the big tank that would more than likely eat the babies. ive had ghost shrimp (for food), and they disapeard quick, and one of my neons disappeard too....

all i have now is the 33 and the 1 gallon. but im planning on getting something bigger for em. its very temporary. and if i cant get anything bigger, i have plenty of people i know i can give em too... but could this work??

and how will i know when shes somewhat close to giving birth? and should i put her and the male in there? or just her?

and its either 1 or 1.5 im not sure

Get a floating breeding net or trap. That's what they are for.

If you want a temporary grow out tank for the babies when they are a bit bigger ( but still small enough to be eaten ) , get the following:

A big clear plastic storage bin with a lid

A small filter - Put a thin/fine stocking over the intake to stop them getting sucked in and fill the compartments with some mature/used sponge or other mature media from the filter in your big tank ( this creates an instantly cycled filter ) This way you won't have to faff about cycling new media.

Some plants - real or fake is fine but real is more preferable as they will help a little to use up fish waste. Some easy to care for, fry friendly plants would be Riccia ( floats ) Java moss and Moss balls

A heater.

1 gallon tanks are a gimmick. They're useless for fish ,no good at all for raising loads of fry and completely unsuitable for bettas.
