It's taken 7 weeks but my tank is finally converting 5ppm Ammonia to 0ppm Ammonia and Nitrite overnight. I think I'm finally cycled!!!

Congratulations man!

I hope my tank doesnt take 7 weeks, im only 1 week in lol, 6 more would be murder haha.

What you gonna stock it with?

well luckily my ammonia started going down in 3 days, my bacteria for that are done, and it in theory only takes 2-3 times longer for the nitrite bacteria to colonise, so i should be done in the next 2 weeks....hopefully lol

Congratulations kharma!

We are coming up on 4 weeks and finally the end of phase 1 action has started. The nitrite tests spiked to dark purple. A day or two later the ammonia went to zero (finally yellow instead of the same old green!) And we did the first peek at nitrate and found 10 or 20ppm there too! All very exciting but generating some needs - our pH dropped to 6.0 so I'm afraid we need to find the time to do another water change followed by bringing the Ammonia back up to 4ppm. And we're going to have to get back to measuring ammonia every day so we don't starve the bacteria -- requires more time than that first phase when you could just get the occasional green tube!

At least this time when we do the water change I'll know to make -sure- that my son has opened the valve at the aquarium end of the Python and maybe I won't get sprayed all over the bathroom! LOL
