    What Good Are Water Changes If My Nitrates Are 20-30 Ppm From The Tap?

    My tap water is just horrible. My nitrates are at 20-30 ppm. What good are WC's if I add more than I remove. I have a 20 gallon tank. I do a 25% water change every week. The nitrates in the tank are around 40 ppm. I think the only thing keeping it down are Purigen and Prime.

    The pH of my tap water has always been 8.4. I've called the local water supplier and they say pH ranges from 8-8.8 in my area. I tested it myself and got 8.4 and went to PetsMart and got 8.4. I want to know to lower pH without harming fish or using those crappy "Proper pH 7.0" or "pH down"...
