Gardens of the River - Aquascape - 30GAL

With only 2 LFS, and only SW, congrats on getting yourself going. Don't feel bad though, here in LA we have only 1 official ADA store, which happens to be the LFS nearest me.

Using Seaweed To Get Rid Of Nuisance Algae In Your Aquarium Or Pond

Using Seaweed to get rid of nuisance algae in your aquarium or pond, part 3 Thinking back now to the oven, and to the heat concentrated inside it, it becomes clear that if that same heat were let out of the oven, your house temperature would get hot, but not near as hot as the oven was. Why...

Why the need for such light stocking in marine tanks?

I think it's more to do with the mindset of the SW person. They are usually about the decor+fish+coral, but the FW person is more about just the fish. So, they get more of them.

Yes, marines can be just as easy, if you don't keep corals.

Chaeto Reactors compared to Algae Scrubbers

Chaeto Reactors compared to Algae Scrubbers, part 3 Now for nutrients. Nutrients are defined as inorganics, not organics. The word "nutrient" is sometimes confused with "nutrition", and maybe in restaurants the words might mean the same thing, but for aquarists they are totally different...

Chaeto Reactors compared to Algae Scrubbers

Chaeto Reactors compared to Algae Scrubbers, part 2 Now for some basic differences; more detailed differences will be in subsequent posts. The first and maybe most important difference is that chaeto reactors grow only in saltwater (fish only, or fish with live rock, or reef) whereas algae...

Chaeto Reactors compared to Algae Scrubbers

Chaeto Reactors compared to Algae Scrubbers, part 1 All macroalgae operate basically the same, chemically. They all use light, photosynthetically, to absorb nutrients from the water (i.e., filtering) and to grow biomass. Just like trees. The differences between types of macroalgae are in the...

Chaeto Reactors compared to Algae Scrubbers

With more people wanting to use natural filtration for their tanks, we are going to look at the two main types of units that you can put on your system: Chaeto reactors (or "algae reactors") and algae turf scrubbers (ATS). We won’t be looking at refugiums however, since those have mostly a...

    Suggestions for Aquascaping?

It makes sense that letting everything grow, will give you a forest :) Also as mentioned, without having to get into co2, you can get this naturally with more fish, and more feeding of them. The fast constant swimmers are the ones that respire the most co2 into the water, compared to more still...

    Domino Damselfish (Threespot Dascyllus)

Yep all this is true. Learned the hard way. I would almost say to consider this guy as a species-only tank only, in which case it would do great and look nice with it's almost-all black.

    Zoanthids

Zoa gardens are really becoming popular and beautiful, because of the ease of care, incredible variety of colors, and so many nano tanks being available now. Just google "zoa garden" to get some ideas.
