Keep a maintained level of around 2 - 3 ammonia after ammonia starts breaking down. Just check it every 2 days and see what readings you get.   Ammonia will drop as it has in your case, nitrite will rise (keep feeding ammonia through the entire process, maintaining the 2 - 3 level) and then...

At one point, I had nitrates of around 80 - 100ppm. It was extremely high but never seemed to affect my fish.

Temp is always at 26 in my tank. Good to know that they have a chance of surviving. I'm going to go and purchase some Primafix/Melafix later and start treating them.

Oh god, it looks exactly the same.   Just a few questions if I may:   1. Do I just treat them with pimafix/melafix/salt? 2. Can I treat them in the main tank or do they need to be quarantined? 3. Does treatment affect other fish? I guess this one will depend on what I'm treating them for?   Thanks

Strange how it just sprung up. I'll have to see if I can grab some meds from my LFS. Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go.   How do I know if other fish are affected by salts?   I have yoyo loaches, peppered corydoras, cardinal tetras, swordtails and platys.

As long as it's not sharp gravel then they should be okay. Sharp gravel damages their barbels (whiskers).   They definitely do prefer sand though so I'd go with sand, it looks way better too imo.
