I have noticed the temp creep over 30c, but have managed to cool the tank by using a fan.   My platties have been doing white stringy poo, but they have been doing that since I have had them, my guppies have never done white poo.

Hi, it doesn't smell and it doesn't foal or bubble at all. I did do that test. The ammonia has gone up, just not as much as I expected.

Evening all My ammonia has been around the 1ppm mark for 5 days now. Do I wait until its closer to 0, or should I top up to 3ppm?

Evening all. Just thought I'd give a little update on my cycle. Ammonia has been coming down very slowly over the last few days. It's is still about 1ppm-ish. Nitrites are still at 0. But nitrates have been going up. Current Y at 20ppm-ish. Slowly but surely things are happening.

I tested my nitrates today, they have gone from darkish purple (10 - 15) to light purple (5). Is this normal? I thought the only way to get rid of nitrates is to do a water change? Also I seem to have a time bit of algae in my tank, is that a good sign?

Last night when I tested my water, it showed the ammonia had come down a tad between 1ppm - 2ppm, nitrites still 0 and nitrates still between 10ppm - 15ppm it has been like this for 2/3 days. Is my cycle kind of going backwards. i.e I have plenty nitrate eating bacteria, but the ammonia eating...

Hi PaulHR I have had a look at that list, I was just wondering if there was anyone closer to home.

Some good info here, I always added declor to buckets as I filled the tank, I always thought that if I put untreated water in the tank I'd kill off all the good bacteria.
