Thanks All!
1.026 was a typo. I maintain my tank at 1.024. I noticed that there's a lot of salt deposit on the heater, filter and glass top (which I clean out). So when I check the SG after losing a couple of inches off the top, I dont see too much of an increase in it. As a result I balance...
Hi All!
I have a 10gal FOWLR. It has been running for the past 4 weeks now. Added 6 small CUC in week 2. Checked parameters twice and both times saw the following:
Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrites - 0ppm
Nitrate - 5-10ppm
I have never done a water change (except for the occasional top off with RO...
Oh no!!!! 80% water change with fish in there is a big problem. You cant have their water shift so drastically. You should have done 25-50% water change every day for a few days possibly. If you arent adding Ammonia AND you did a 80% water change yesterday, I would suggest a 50% water change for...
From where I see it your Ammonia is between 1.0 and 2.0 ppm....which is WAY too high. You will need to wait till the Ammonia comes below 0ppm to stock your tank. Remember that you will see a spike in Nitrite and Nitrate levels as the Ammonia gets converted.
Thanks guys! The guy at Petco tried to sell that to me but I was suspicious.
Does RO water from Walmart work? I am just trying to have alternatives at hand, just in case. My LFS sells RO for about 50c/gallon or less.
Can one use 'Betta Water' (From Petco) as a RO/DI water source for saltwater tank top up?
On the Petco website it says that this water is processed by RO and has no additives.

I have a 5 gallon with live rock and added 4 hermit crabs and 2 snails last night. All seem to like climbing around the rocks while 1 snail likes to stick to the filter.
1) What are lighting requirements for a CUC?
2) Do they need food or will they be okay?
Any other tips to care for cuc...
Thanks for your responses.
I will take your advice and probably not keep a clown in it.
Is there any other small hardy saltwater fish that I can keep in it for a while? My plan is not to buy a larger tank, just to keep the fish for about a year and then donate (either back to LFS or to...
Hi all!
This is the first time I am setting up a home aquarium!
Here are some details:
- 5 gallon pico (ecoxotic)
- Substrate is crushed coral (aragonite)
- 3 lbs of live rock from my LFS (2 lbs of it was in a tank with fish!)
I have had the filter and heater (at 78 deg) running for 2 weeks...
