The Petco 1/2 off Tank sale is a good deal. That's where we get all our smaller tanks 55 gal and under. Take a look in your local Craigslist or equivalent for aquarium stands. There are deals to be found on stands all the time. We just found a 55 gal stand for under $30.00 and it's in...
4 ppm of ammonia during the fishless cycle is way to high IMHO. We try to start in the 1.25-1.5 ppm range max and it still can take up to 2 weeks for the ammonia levels to drop. The last two tanks we did the fishless cycle on were 75 gal and one took about 2 1/2 weeks to complete the cycle...
We lost two dwarf Gourami's last year. I'm not sure what they had but they were perfectly fine for almost two years then both bloated so rapidly and we put them down. I'm not sure what the cause was but they were neat fish.
Male or Female it's hard to say. Once they pair up they will actively keep other angels away from them or their spot in the tank. Sometimes they merely chase them away. Other times they will aggressively try to hurt them. The only way to really tell sex is once they drop their tubes to start...
It could be you have the makings of a pair. You might want to setup some structure on the other side of the tank to give the one somewhere to hide. Maybe the other two will leave it alone if it's stays out of their area.
Snails will eat most eggs they come across. Fish are opportunists and they will eat eggs when they get a shot at them too. At night when the fish are resting the eggs are fair game.
It's best to move the pair now that they are spawning to a smaller safer tank.
Did these fish bond and pair naturally or was it a forced coupling? If they paired on their own that aggressive behavior is not usual. Now if they were put together against their own will they are in what we call the divorce stage. Split them up if that's the case.
I'm sure others think differently but I would move the pair out of that tank into their own 20 gal. Angelfish can get aggressive and they can stress out other fish in that tank. Move them into a tank with a #3 sponge Filter and bare bottom. A nice small piece of wood with a plant on it and a...
We feed TetraMin Tropical Flakes and Cobalt Ultra Spirulina to the adults. We grind the same food up and feed this to the babies after 4 weeks as we try to wean them of BBS. The fish really do well on this combo.
