Figured out it was at least one of the other fish in the tank (a tetra) and the wounds are healing nicely and the brown growths on the Discus have disappeared

It's 56 gallons and I have plants, a log and other discus along with some tetras. Nothing that I would think would cause the wounds.

Your cycle should not be effected. Your bacteria grows in your gravel and your filter. What kind of fish do you have?

It may return to normal but the reason the eye became cloudy is likely because of damage to the cornea of the eye, which will take months to heal. If popeye is not treated it will kill the fish. Just be really patient and give lots of TLC to this fish and with proper medication and time the eye...

Have you tried treating the fish for pop eye?

I've found that appistogramma's only breed if they want to. I have had success with the macmasteri. As long as water conditions and pH are good, they will only breed if they want to become bonded to each other. I have never been able to make them breed together
