Hi,
I have had a tank with a few zebra Danios and the filter had broken so I had a new one today and it has a spray bar instead of just pumping oxygen into the tank. I have noticed my danios have been going to the surface. Is this normal?? I have also seen some yellowing in the bottom of a few of them

It may be a cycling issue if the former filter media was discarded when the new filter was installed. Can you test ammonia especially? Nitrite too would help. How long has the tank been running?

I doubt it is an oxygen issue as from the photo the spray bar seems to be creating surface disturbance. But ammonia is like poisoning to fish, making it difficult for them to respirate, so they frequently hang or remain near the surface, and may gulop air.

Thanks I can't test anything because I have ran out and all the local fish shops are closed.

As you can see if the photo the fish are at the top. The new filter has been in the tank for around 4 - 5 hours

My danios stayed at the top of the tank when i first tranfered them but then they got used to the filter that had alot faster flow than they were used to. It is completely normal for them to do that. They swim at medium level to top level. Maybe try to increase the flow or something.
