Just a quick question what would be considered to high for xenia when it comes to nitrate as I am about 20ppm and my xenia hasnt opened would this be considered high? my nitrites and ammonia are both 0 and calcium PH phosphate and KH are all well within limits.

Xenia is hardy once established, but it can be tricky to settle it in. Nitrate of 20 ppm is fairly high, but should be tolerable. Anyways, try to take that down a bit.

am just about to do 10% water change so will see if it helps

how long does it take to settle?

cheers Lynden still time then as its been in tank 24hr and not come out at all, think I may do another water change soon to try and get nitrates down lower to give it a chance.

I believe it was SH who said that Xenia is a good detector of nitrates, that a a lot of people use it to determine if their levels are too high as the Xenia will be the first to close up.
