by Malawi fish I am assuming you mean Cichlids? In any case, to expand on what dwarf dude said, spotted puffers are brackish, and need their own type of water which is incompatible with freshwater fish, they are also aggressive and may harm the tiger barbs. Tiger barbs are sometimes used as dithers for Cichlids, but I would not advise on you buying cichlids yet because they require lots of research, which you obviously have not done yet.
What is the size of the tank your talking about, and what are your water parameters and filter specifications. Are there any other fish in the tank? you must give us more information for a straight answer.
