When i got my honey gouramis they were a bright yellowy orange color all over. Now they are getting black scales on the sides of their head and on their bottom fin is turning black. It's happening to both of them in the same spots. Is this natural? Is this how they mature? Are these breeding colors? :dunno:

:dunno: maybe it's part of the maturing process

Congratulations! Depending on how long you've had your fish, your honey gouramis either are settling in and getting comfortable in their new home, or have matured. The males get a dark head and belly when they're adult and feel secure. And yes, they are breeding colours too; the color usually intensifies when they're ready to breed.

Here's a pic of an adult male honey gourami.

Thank you Morrgan, I thought it was a disease. Your the only one who answered this without guessing. I would love for them to look like that. Go to my 55 gallon community i the pic section. My honeys are in there. :D I think they are going through gourami puberty :p
