Water Hardness (gH)

What is the best way to lower the gH in my aquarium? My tap water is really hard (over 300 ppm), and I think it is affecting my fish. I read that hard water can affect the proper functioning of the kidneys and cause dropsy. I have black mollies, platies, swordtails, cordydoras, and a plecostomus. Please help me.

Hi..you need something called a pillow or water softener pillow. It's a resin that absorbs minerals and softens the water. You usually place it in your filter. Here is a link so you can see what they look like. Good luck.SH
