Understocking?

SINCE I only keep bettas, I'm retarded when it comes to other types of aquariums, but I'm learning.

Is it possible to have a tank understocked?
So, I guess what I'm asking is - is it possible to have so few fish that the levels of ammonia and bacteria and such would get off whack?

Like having 6 neon tetras in a 200G tank (for a wacky example)??

I don't think so, there is usually enough bacteria to support the amount of fish, so even with small fish, the amount of good bacteria should still be able to support them

turns out it was just a dumb thought.

dwarfs - look how gynormous your fishy looks in comparison to the photos of my fish. That's quite funny on screen.
