Hehe, I think Wilder was trying to say, UG filters are rather outdated these days and a good internal power filter or external canister filter offer much better filtration biologically/mechanically/chemically. Although some people still swear by them.

[EDIT: UGF's are more difficult to maintain too, with an internal or canister, you simply rinse the sponges in old tank water and replace the poly pads now and again]

Thats rated at 250l so its plenty for your tank, so do as wilder says, sling the UGF :p

Jon

 Sling it in the bin.

UGF's provide a large area for bio-filtration--the entire substrate...I think it would take a large canister to hold an equal amt of media? Unless you plan on keeping plants, or fish that are prone to dig, I see no reason to toss it.

But the bacteria will, given sufficient food, spread to the gravel any way. The power filter just provides a good base for them to breed what with the constant water flow etc.
