I have a 36 gal with 8 tiger barbs, 2 tetras & 2 swordtails. Everyone has been very peaceful & no issues. They have all lived together for about 6 months. There is 1 that appears to have shimmies but after looking further I have noticed it is missing most of his fins. Not sure if he is getting bullied or if it’s fin rot. No other fish has any issues. Water was recently changed & water at good levels. Any thoughts or advice on what to do? I am new to tiger barbs, have only had livebearers before.
Also a side question, 1 of my barbs has different fins than the others. Are there different kinds? Seems like long & short fins. Thanks. I have attached pictures of the fish with eaten fins or fin rot & one with the 2 different kinds of fins.

Hello :)
First of all, can you please provide water parameters :
pH
GH
KH
NO2
BO3
NH3

TB's are notorious fin nippers and highly aggressive, they should be kept species-only, in large numbers, to spread their aggression....most likely the one with the fin damage is being harassed, due to their low numbers

Thanks for the feedback. I had 10 but 1 died & now have 9. They all seem pretty peaceful when I am watching but who knows what happens when I am not watching.
Water - PH is always high 8.0-8.2, ammonia & nitrite 0, nitrate .2-.5 & we have hard water. I don’t have any more detailed parameters.

There are long fin and short fin tiger barbs and you have both. Normally you keep short fin or long fin but not both because the long fins usually get chewed.

The fish with the pieces missing from its tail looks like it has been bitten.

Do daily water changes and gravel cleans for a week, and monitor it for infection. (white and fluffy is fungus, red is bacterial).

Thanks so much! I don’t see anything that looks like fungus. I got from local pet store & didn’t realize the different fins. Only 1 of the 9 is short fins. Maybe I can take him back & exchange??

You have a couple of Serpae Tetras I think, they can be mean if not kept in larger schools. Looks like nipping to me.

Thanks! Yes I have 2 of them & have had them a very long time. They are actually quite calm & stay on the bottom. The tiger barbs are almost always on top of the tank or middle. I have always had livebearers so don’t know much about the tiger barbs. My daughter wanted them so once we lost a lot of fish we got them. We had another tetra that looked similar but larger & it recently died.
