do only pregnant swortails have gravid spots or do all swordtails have gravid spots

THanks

Depends on the fish and its color....

Gravid spots can appear dark, light, black, clear, orange, yellow, all depends on the fish, pregnant or not, they can have gravid spots and pregnant or not they can have no gravid spots.

I agree some of my lighter fish never had been introduced to males and seem to have a gravid spot!

The green swordtail is a species of freshwater/brackish fish in family Poeciliidae of order Cyprinodontiformes. A live-bearer, it is closely related to the southern platyfish or ‘platy’ and can crossbreed with it.

Most (so, not all...) female livebearers have a gravid spot. And also when they're not pregnant. The difference is that the gravid spot grows (because the skin is stretching) when they're pregnant. But again, a gravid spot itself does not mean that they're pregnant. It's the most translucent part of the skin. Nothing more, nothing less... Any other explanation is incorrect.
