I have just bought a 2nd hand 30L biorb but i want to put sand as the substrate with a view to trying my hand at a planted tank ive seen that inorder to do this i wont be able to use the filter that comes with it but would i be able to use a matured free standing sponge filter stood on the sand and use the air hole that would normally be for the filter for an airstone?

Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated!

Chris

Yes, it should work.

What are you planning on putting in there?

Just gonna be a nice little retirement home for my placid betta or a bachelor pad for younger male!

Any suggestions for plant to put in cos ive never 'done' live plants yet and dont really know whats best
