I've looked through my account setting and post pages but can't find how to unsubscribe from a subscribed topic. Any assistance would be appreciated. No issue with the thread or anything and not a big deal. It is just an off topic thread that I don't participate.

Go to the top of the thread and click: "unwatch"

I've done that a couple of times in the past but it sort of feels like cheating. I kind of feel that, if I'm going to be involved in such a thread, I should actually be involved.

Well you can't take it off that section... You've replied to it, so it will always be in the section of" "Threads with your posts". You just won't get notifications for it now
