Here's the deal. My girlfriend wants her own tank to house mainly neon tetras. She wants to keep her spending on this tank to a bare minimum.

How many neon tetras can she expect to fit comfortably in a 10 Gallon? She also would like to get 4-6 other fish (other kinds of peaceful tetras). Do neon tetras count as the full inch per gallon? they are very little.

So, say she got 4 inches worth of other fish, how many neon tetras could she get in there and still not overcrowd the tank?

And say there was nothing else in the tank but neon tetras, how many then?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes their time to answer this question!

you need to take the adult size of the tetra. and use that in the calculations. would only go with one inch per gallon in that small of a tank. smaller tanks are much harder to maintain than larger ones. the toxins are more concentrated and require more frequent water changes.

so the answer is basically, 10 little fish no matter what right?

i.e.

10 neon tetras

OR

6 neon tetras and 4 other 1 inch fish

etc.
