Miles' Fishless Cycle

Ah, that sucks, file a regression bug ;)

How long before fish? Was it Wednesday that the first ones go in?

Yes KK - the schedule of events is:
Today: start hard landscaping (hope that the wood has got rid of most of the tannins
Monday: Buy plants (pm) and place in bucket with something (unknown!) to discourage snails etc
Tuesday: Final water test of the fishless cycle, planting, big water change (pm)
Wednesday: Collect fish (17:00) and acclimatise for a few hours adding water etc. Add fish to the tank, ogle and switch off lights
Thursday: show the kids
Friday: First feed

Anything you can see to improve there? Water tests will be done every 12 hours of course.

That should be fine. I prefer to drip acclimatise, into a bucket, but slow addition of water is also fine. Because these are your first fish, it should be ok to add the LFS water to your tank, although still better not to.

The only other improvement I can suggest is to keep the lights off on Wednesday from the point you come home with fish.

And of course use a timer for the lights, it's better all round.

Thanks KK - will take the suggestion of lights off and we were planning to net from the transport bag, after all better to get into good habits from the start :)
