Hi Dave. I keep all my tanks on a 10-14 hour lighting cycle. It sounds like alot, but the biorb lighting isn't as strong as some of the others and the plants need it.

I think it all depends on what strength of lighting you have in your tank and the type of plants you're growing as to how long each plant needs. The fish will be happy with whatever you give them I think :D

I tend to do 10 hours in summer and 8 in winter... dont forget the amount of time the light is OFF is important too !

If you have plenty of room light then thats actually enough for just fish. You need to switch on lights in a fish only tank for aesthetic reasons. For plants, its a different scenario alltogather. Minimum 10 hrs of light in a day. ideally 14-16 but a lot of things depend on this cycle.
