I got some Java Moss and a Banana Plant a couple weeks ago.

You can see on the photos that the Java moss is looking brown...is it ok and it'll rebound?

The Banana plant as well, you can see there's 2 leaves; a large one and a small one and it's also growing a new small one; but the small leaf looks to be losing it's green color and possibly dying? The new leaf has a similar color too; but the big leaf looks healthy and green. Problems?

I don't have any fish in the tank, but do have some ghost shrimp. I use the Flourish Comprehensive 1 or 2 times a week to fertilize.

The brown bits of Java Moss will probably rot and should be removed if it feels soft and mushy.

The banana lily should be sending up stalks to the surface and the roots should be pushed gently into the substrate.

If you only got the plants recently they might have gotten too hot during transport home or to the shop you got them from. That is the most common cause for plants turning brown, basically they cook and fall apart.

If you have had the plants for a while then there is probably something in the water, possibly too much fertiliser. Overdosing with fertilisers can burn leaves and roots so never overdose with fertilisers.

Wouldn't've been hot going home. Was cool and went 10 minutes from store to the aquarium (floating in the bag for an hour and then put in). Also not too hot as it's a pretty stable 70 degrees for the water.

Might be overfertilizing...though it would've been by too much and the other plants are going ok.

They might have been damaged on transit to the shop from the supplier, or in the shop tanks. How long have you had them for?

Out of curiosity, why did you float them for an hour?
10minutes is normally fine for getting the temperature the same :)

I dropped them in and did some work and got back to it an hourish later.

If it only started in the last few days then it's something in the tank, probably the fertiliser.

If you don't have many plants in the tank, either do half dose twice a week or do a big water change before dosing. The water change will dilute any remaining nutrients and then you can give the tank a full dose and theoretically not end up overdosing the plants. Or just dose full strength once a week, after a big water change.
