How To Size Fish

hi, everyone may seem a funny question but how do we size fish, is it from nose to tail, or nose to end of body. also what is the rule for stocking a tank , is it one inch of fish per gallon or one inch of fish per ten gallon. many thanx

i always go nose to end of the tail...also, the old 1 in per gallon cant be applied to all fish...it all depends on what kind of fish you are keeping...what are you looking at keeping and in what size tank?

when working out stocking i think your meant to go from nose to end of body

there are 2 ways
length & total length (T/L)

when viewing a site and it states length is 6 inch, that means they have not included the tail
if a site states 6inch (T/L) they have included the tail.

personally I always use (T/L) as it is more accurate, especially when dealing with fish with long tails, like whiptail catfish
or swordtails etc
