Hey Got Some Questions About A Salt Water Tank I Wanna Start

Just use normal Aragonite sand and ask for a cup full of live sand. It will seed your dead aragonite and you don't even have to waste your money on Live Sand

Agreed, that "Live Sand" in a bag is a marketing gimmick entirely. Don't tell me that anything is alive in that bag after its been sitting in a warehouse for 3-6 months and on the shelves at your LFS for a similar timeframe...

Mr.September's Mini-Practice for the SAT Test:
I set up my tank today! I put 20 and a half cups of salt in the tank. I got two pounds of live rock, each rock is about a half a pound. I got my aquahead which is doing well also, my filters are running and my specific gravity is rising. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress.

That's great to hear Tyler. Good to see thing's are coming by smoothly. Just another input from me, it's a big money saver to use play sand. I've used play sand in my tank and so far there has been no problems, pH is at the right spot and everything. However, there are some types of play sand that don't work this way. I paid about 4 dollars for 50 pounds. A visual would be nice too! :D

hey i made a big mistake about what i said lol i i just realized this is a salt water tank not fresh so i dont put that in cause 7.0 real low how to i get it to 8.0 or 8.3 do i need certain conditioner to mantain it

The sand should have pH buffers which help mantain the level of 8.0-8.3. Your S.G is pretty low, so I would bump it up to 1.026 which is closest to ocean water. I believe if you add sodium bicarbonate to your tank the pH should go up.

EDIT: BTW a common term for sodium bicarbonate is baking soda.

o ok i didnt get it tested yet also my tank is now at 1.025 and 1.026 and if my ph isnt hig henoug hwhat do i do by chemcicals to make it at that or what???

Whoa, put on the breaks with the pH there tyler, you want to be VERY careful when adjusting pH. Just throwing baking soda into the water willy nilly will probably crash your pH bigtime. If you're anywhere at 8.0 or higher, leave it. Even if you're in the 7.8 7.9 range (which is somewhat common in new tanks with freshly mixed water) dont loose sleep, its not the end of the world and we can teach you how to bring it up slowly and safely :good:. Keep an eye on your sg so that it doesnt raise too high. In the future, mix the water first in a rubbermaid bin, bucket, garbage can, whatever to make sure its the right sg before doing a water change ;).

I realize your excited, as are we for you, but remember the old saltwater saying, beauty takes time but disaster happens quickly. Enjoy what you've done and keep reading :)
