Help with jewel fishes pls

Hi... I just got myself 2 jewel fishes.. Put them in the community tank with my barbs. Till last night saw eggs layer on the rock and seemed they were guarding it. Decided to move the pair on a 2.5gallon tank and the rock that had eggs. Did I doit correctly? Pls help. Also eggs are some white and others brown

It was a good idea to move the jewels, if they're jewel cichlids, as they are very aggressive, especially when breeding.

However, a 2.5 gallon isn't going to be big enough for a pair and their brood for long, so you will need something bigger if you're going to raise them; it doesn't need to be a glass tank, of course; a large plastic storage box, with a heater, filter and some decor, would do the job, if that's easier for you.
