Hello!

I've had four neon tetras for a few days now, and I don't really know which gender they are. If anyone could give me some tips on how to sex them, that would be great!

The only external difference between male and female is in the girth of the body. Males will be thinner than females. This is usually easiest seen from above. This applies to most all of the characins and cyprinids; very few species have any sexual dimorphism in their patterning or colouration.

Look at the blue line. Males have a straight line and females have a slight kink in the blue line.
If you have trouble, post pics and we should be able to sex them for you.

Thank you both so much! I will try these methods. If I still have trouble I will post here again. You both are amazing!
