I went out and bought a Lee's sponge filter (fairly cheap and uses carbon) for my 10 US gallon tank. I've got an old Whisper 200 pump with it. I plan on dividing the tank into three sections for 2 killi pairs and either a betta or killi fry.

There seemed like there was a lot of surface disturbance when i use the pump and filter - possibly too much for a betta.

1) Should I get a different sponge filter?
2) Should I invest in a new pump? (This one is at least 8+ yrs old).

thanks in advance

i had the same problem in my bettas tank. the closer you put it to the surface the less surface movement it will create.

or go with the gang valve those will work too.

gang valve is a good idea. i tried the closer to the surface method and it does work, but it seems the sponge filter is most effective near the bottom from all that i read
