Is the Green Spotted Puffer the same as the Leopard Puffer....??? The LPS has them labeld as Leopard, but they look EXACTLY like the Green Spotted-anyone???? :alien:

Why must they have so many differant names 8)

Daveo :flex:

I've even had them called panther puffers.

Actually, no.
Greenspotteds are sometimes incorrectly called leopards, but the true leopard puffer is true freshwater (while GSPs are brackish.)

Retailers often lable them poorly. Make sure you know what you are getting!

Green Spotted Puffers - tetradon niroviridis Brackish

Leopard Puffers - tetradon schoutedeni Freshwater

They do look very, very alike.

the problem with common names is that they overlap a fishes common name is whatever it is most often called. there are 3 very similar fish - tetradon fluviatilistetradon niroviridis (heavy brackish) , tetradon niroviridis (light brackish) ,and tetradon schoutedeni (fresh)

It could easily be any one of these

More info Here

Hope this Helps

Edit: Mixed fluvalitis and nigrovidus
