gravel and plants

What is best to use for the bottom of the tank? I have heard so many different things and I want to do it right the first time. I currently have small gravel about 2 inches thick that came with the tank. I like the gravel but I heard it is not good for live plants any sugggestions I am going to fish store and today is my last time for 2 weeks. I would like to get evrything I need then I won't be buying on impulsive only going after otos, and more live plants(if they have any). No lfs carries anymore because of the snails.

Gravel at that depth should be fine for most plants. Avoid specialist species and you'll be fine.
