Everyone that i see and talk to not have a filter or anything with there betta. They say that it upsets the fish and others say differnent. Although everytime i look in my 10 gal with the divider I dont like the way my water seems dirty to me. Can I get a sponge filter or leave it as it is?

i have a 10G with a filter in it, i do think tha ta 10G will require a filter. Those who don't have af ilter for their bettas probably have them in smaller bowls where you can do more water changes, but in a big tank you really can't do huge water changes, so i'd suggest you putting a filter in.

Bettas do prefer still water, but nobody said they like dirty water

What filter do you have. I have a biowheel 125 for it, but it aggitates the water to much when i am trying to have the male notice the female and build a nest? So when should i turn the filter on or what should i do?

min'es an aquaclear 150 filter, it doesn't make much of a current (i got it like 4 yeras ago, so i'ts a bit on the old side). I don't know about having hte male build a bubblenst and all, if you put some plants on top that might encourage him to built a nest in that area.

Keep in mind some males just don't build a nest until really late int eh breeding stages.
