I take it your trying to raise your magnesium and you can use Epsom Salts (from any Chemist shop) but you'd be better using two parts to achieve this
Magnesium Chloride and Magnesium Sulphate

what benefits would i get doing it the mixture way rather than using the epsom salts

Because longterm use of epsom salts can lead to an increase of sulphate ions which may (or may not) be detrimental to corals/inverts. If you waterchange frequently though, this isn't a problem. Also typically mag chloride is cheaper than mag sulphate.

Check out grocery stores or drugshops for epsom salts
