The rummynose would be ok providing they dont mind the soft water, I had cardinals as they dont mind the softer water and grow a little bigger then neons which is safer if the discus get too hungry one day lol. Frozen bloodworm is fine to keep, don't bin it, they love the stuff but constantly feeding them it will end up with them wanting it like an addiction. Oh and what's with the 4 water changes a week??? I changed mine once a week, 1/4 of the tank, but I did have a #41#### good filter, my tank was immaculate.

discus will never reach their full potential with a 25% weekly waterchange. they will live but they wont thrive ,and it doesnt matter how good your filter is . discus are pig particularly young discus which require several feedings every day ( what would be overfeeding for most fish ) this obviously fouls the water much quicker , and the nitrates will start to rise quicker. these need to be kept low for discus hence the extra waterchanges

Hi Iv tested my tank and it has the following stats:
Ph 7
Kh - 8-9 drops multiply by 10 = 80-90
Gh- 8 drops - multiply by 20 = 160

What is the best way to make the water discus friendly that will be stable causing very little to no fluctuations?

Still gathering info and researching :)

that water should be absolutely fine for discus . temp range 28 to 30 is ideal. is this your 1st time with discus?

a good place tostart is 1stly dont get your discusfrom a lfs go to a specialist such as chens discus , discus south , devotedly discus . the fish will be far better quality , better priced and a lot stronger and healthier.

discus from around 4 inches upwards are much much easier than small juveniles , this is a good size range for your 1st group .
feed a high protein good qualiity diet including thiongs such as tetra prima , frozen foods such as krill are also quite good. freeze dried austrailian blackworms are good also ( availiable from discus south)
bloodworm are fine occaisonally as a treat but be carefull with them asthey are pretty poor nutritionaly and fish easily become addicted to them and refuse anything else. thisis a particular problem with discus as they can be very finnicky with new foods once accustomed to a certain diet.

be very careful with livefoods as they often bring in parasites , which discus are particularly prone to. the safest option is brineshrimp .

heres a very usefull guide to what to look for when slecting discus .

I'm new to discus still sorting the tank out at the moment but trying to gather as much info as possibly on them. So much to learn Iv bought some food in the form of tetra pro crisps and tetra primer discus. I'll check these stores I'm in the north east area(uk) is there any good stores that anyone knows about for discus inparticular? Putting this out there but is there any brilliant stores which ship the fish to your address. (very risky as you don't see the fish in real life) or would I be better traveling down to the stores?

My tank is 190 litres as listed above so some say it will be ok to house 4 discus? Are 4 discus ok Iv read that you need 6 min but then other sites say different.

ud do better with 8 tetras and 6 corydoras should u opt for them. and be careful which corydoras u get as very few can survive long term in 28C+ temps.

Would the stocking levels be ok with discus also? If the discus need 50litres each? (I'm
10 litres short with me looking to get 4 to start with?

you would be better off if you can to upgrade to a 55g and get 6 . this serves 2 purposes. 1stly it helps the discus feel more secure , and 2ndly it spreads any aggression , as you will always get a dominant fish and a weak fish. with a bigger group the weaker fish can get "lost in the crowd"

people like chens discus and devotedly discus will happily take pics of the fish they select for you and email them for your approval before you buy.
