Cichlid ID appreciated

Hi I'm new to the forum and new to Cichlids but have kept fish for years.

I remember a few years ago one of my friends had some African Cichlids that were purple/turquoise striped. They were beautiful fish and although I have searched the net I can't find any info on the little critters. I know the description is vague but could anyone help me identify them?
