This depends on the type of CF you choose. CF filters are generally more robust, but plastic filters are just as efficient and generally cheaper. For the beginner a plastic filter is recommended, just in case you decide fishkeeping is not for you.
It like a new driver who's just learning, do they go for an average car or do they go for a roller? Same difference with fishkeeping.
