I have had my tank for around six months now(new to the hobby, but well hooked) and all has been fine, plants growing well, fish well settled but recently i introduced a java fern to the tank, may be a factor or not, but ever since i have noticed an abundance of dark green/black stringy algue begining to grow on the sides of the other plants in the tank especially the grasses. Any ideas what this could be and how i can control it?

any advice would be much apreciated,

p.s. any ideas how i can import photos on to my post?

You probably brought it in on your newest plant.

You can- take all plants/decorations out and scrub them and do small water changes.

Or you can give a "lights out" to kill it off. (will kill other plants too if left off too long).

You can cut back on feeding to help deplete the plant food (fish food waste, etc.)

If your tank is near a window then that could be your problem too.

I'd go with cutting back the food and scrubbing the plants.
You can give them a wash in dilluted bleach too.
Like ten parts water to one part bleach I think.

* oh yeah-

dont leav the plants in the bleach for too long. It can kill them. And make sure to wash them off in clean water to get rid of the bleach.

And another thing.

To import a picture-
In this section I think you have to upload it to an image host and link back to it.

When you go to make a post look at the top of the white box.

It should have an option that says...

IMG

Click on that and add your URL (address). :) HTH'S!

many thanks thats great

, i think its cut back on the feeding and carry out more, small water changes.
