are black ghost knives ok with small community fish? like tetras?

Yes, they are very peaceful fish that can go with tetras but once the tetras can fit in their mouths (Which are quite large) they should't be with them. As the Black Ghost Knife fish can get more aggressive as they get older. They also grow quite fast.

Even when relatively small BGKs can and will eat small fish like tetras and so should not be housed with them. Keep tankmates over 4" and peaceful for BGKs.
