So whenever I turn on my betta fish's lights in the morning and try to feed my betta, it usually takes about 5 minutes for my betta to actually swim up from the gravel and eat the food. I was wondering if bettas need a bit of time to actually wake up and have energy?

That's how almost all of my fish are. They probably just need some time to adjust to the light and as you said, wake up. c:

My Bettas are wide awake and ready to eat in the morning, they are just too pampered :D although they recive ambient natural light early so they wake up around 6:00-6:30, about, your room is probably darker which means the fish are still sleepy when you turn on the lights.
