Hi, i have been offered a breeding pair of Betta Rubra, stunning fish, and not many about. i will have a small tank set up for them soon, but just wondering if anyone has any specific information on them. so far i figure they will need similar conditions to other bettas, and a lot of the gouramis, i used to keep bettas, ctenopoma ansorgei and chocolate gouramis, not in the same tank, but all had similar conditions, soft acidic water, normally tanned with the use of aquarium peat and almond leaves, im pretty sure the Rubra needs similar conditions, i know they would probably live in normal aquarium water but i do want to breed them so want to get it right for them, any information or ideas will be appreciated!

Well, hello dave_oddballs and welcome to our new wild betta subforum. :)

I hope you do take your friend up on his offer and take the betta rubras. Wild bettas are a nice change of pace and your breeding information will be helpful to all of us. Meanwhile, check out this IBC link for some basic information:

You might also find Coryologist's interview with Mark Denaro interesting. After you get past the basic betta care part in the beginning, you will get a good overview of the variety of will bettas.
