I will be sure in the future to do my reasearch before buying any fish! Just for future reference, what type of fish would you recommend for the water type I have?

Just about any soft water fish species will work. Slightly acidic water (pH 6.4) usually goes with very soft water, and fish from such waters are suited. That means most South American species, most SE Asian species, and Central African (as opposed to East Africa or the rift lakes). These are generalities and there are a few exceptions, but basically the characins (tetras, pencilfish, hatchetfish), catfish (cories, most loricariids), rasbora, gourami, loaches (the S and SE Asian species), danios and barbs. Of course the tank size is important, and not all these fish work together for other reasons.

Avoid harder water fish like all livebearers, rift lake cichlids, Central American cichlids, some Rainbowfish.
