I am looking for some assistance with Aqua One test kits.

My first question is for the ammonia test (I am in a fish in cycle, I have a separate post for this).

The test kit seems to measure NH3. There is no mention of NH4 or total ammonia ... So I thought I was just measuring NH3 but I am not certain?

So the first level is 0.5. I am learning to interpret the colour ... I think I can get a feel for the colour for 0.25 (I do a big water change if nearer to 0.5 and leave alone if nearer to 0) .... I have been using 0.25 as the cut off, I would have no chance I think of detecting 0.05 ... Am I using the right numbers?

My second question is about the nitrate test ... I can't get the reagent to dissolve and therefore can't get a reading! Has any one come across this too?

Many thanks for your help!

I have no experience in this kit. I used the api master kit. I know I had to shake the living daylights out the nitrate bottle to get an accurate reading.

I did a fish in cycle also. My tank isnfulky cycled for a year and a half now. When ammonia read 0.5 I did a 50-75% WC.
