I'm hoping someone can tell me a little bit about the American Flagfish. I've googled them but not a lot of infomation is given on them. Has anyone ever kept any of these? Can anyone direct me in the right direction? Any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure but I think the American Flagfishmainly lives in freshwater. I've heard they are also quite herbivorous and will eat algae and plants.

What do you want to know? If you googled the fish you know the basics, so I'm guessing you want to know details and/or first hand accounts. Please specify.

If for some reason you don't have the basics here they are.

WATER CONDITIONS: fresh-light brackish(1.002-1.005) hard and alkaline dH6-20

PH: 6.7-8.2

TEMP: 64-72F

SIZE: 2 1/2" max

SEXING: males- larger, more colorful
females- smaller, fuller bodied, brown olive gray, w/dark patch on dorsal fin

BREEDING: easy - moderate link

ORIGIN: North America, Florida, Yucatan Peninsula

HABITAT: slow moving marshes, swamps, lakes and ponds

DIET: veggies, flake, bloodworms, will also effectively remove hair algae

*The ranges above are for ideal conditions and ranges can vary adversely.

This is a very hardy fish and will tolerate almost any water conditions. Also the tank should be heavily planted with real plant
and dark substrate. The dark substrate helps bring out there colors and is likely to be the color of there natural environment.
