Um, I've been having problems with this for a while. I've been having brown algae all over my tank, and it will NOT go away. I asked the owner of a local pet shop that I buy my fish from, and she says it's from leaving the light on too long. I've been leaving my light off, cleaning the tank as often as I can, and still, nothing helps. Can you help me PLEASE?!?!?!

how long has the tank been set up? It is a very common condition for new tanks.

sounds like diatoms, this is caused by light and ammonia.

as asked above how long has the tank been running?

how much do you feed? how long were the lights on for?

what is your water change regime?

are the filters and substrate cleaned at all?

Ok, the tank has been set up since the end of December, and I have been keeping the light off most of the day for a while. I have noticed that I might be overfeeding a bit, but I'm cutting down on that. I have been changing the water every week since this started, but when I didn't have this, it was every 2 weeks. Also, the filter pouches are changed every time the tank is cleaned.
