Yesterday, I got two new mollies for my tank, one male and one female.

The female is beautiful, all white with black dots and one blue dot on the middle of her body on both sides.

I put them in around 2pm yesterday and they seemed good, even eating a little bit of the algea tablet i put in for the snail.

Later that night, i realized the female was kind of "falling" on her side most of the time. I had prepared a bucket of water to do a water change and the ammonia level in the aquarium was a bit high and the water seemed somewhat cloudy.

Anyway, I put her in the bucket of fresh water to see if she would be better. She swam around a little bit. I emptied about 1/4 of my tank in an empty bucket to do my water change and when i was ready to pour the other bucket in, i first took out the fish.

I scooped the molly with the net and put her in the tank. She fell like a rock right to the bottom. I scooped her up again and this time she didn't even move when i got her out of the water. I figured she was dead so i put her in a little glass and i was going to bring her back to the lfs tomorrow.

I start pouring the water in the tank and after about 2 minutes i hear the fish wiggling in the glass.

I put her back in the tank and she's doing a lot better now! She swims around with the other fish and doesn't seem to fall on her side anymore. She survived through the night!

I think i'm going to do another 25% water change this afternoon to get rid of some ammonia.

Anybody ever had an experience like this? :D

UPDATE:

Well my mollies are still alive but the female doesn't look that good. She won't move too much, except when the male bugs her. She didn't eat when i fed the fish

I changed 25% of the water again today. Ammonia was lower this morning then it was last night so i hope the cycling is getting done now. It's been a week now. I know I've made mistakes but nobody at the LFS told me and I found out about this place later :(

If you had a high ammonia reading yes this could of stessed the fish out, did the right thing in doing a water change, hiope she is well now.

I wouldn't say she's 100%, but she is swimming a bit more everyday. The first day she just stared at the same corner all day and didn't eat. Friday and Yesterday she ate a little bit.

This afternoon I caught her swimming when I got home from work and ate a bit more than yesterday. She doesn't seem as bad as when I first put her in, though she doesn't use her tail to swim too much, just when she moves longer distances (across the tank).

At least seeing her eat made me feel better. Not bad for a fish i thaught was dead 4 days ago!

I also keep doing daily 25% water changes as ammonia levels are pretty low, but are still present!

Do you no your nitrite reading.

Nope

the pet store had no nitrite test kits left... I'll check again on monday!

Or take a sample of tank water to the lfs to test, and ask them to write the readings down.

she was probably in total shock when it happend  not dead

the pet shop where i bought my mollies are real idiots.

I'm not ever going back. They just give bad advice all the time and every employee told me totally different things concerning fish keeping :(

I'll have to find a good store around montreal, i don't know of any

Their is some good lfs out there, as well as bad one's, hope you find a good one to make the hobby a delight instead of a nightmare, good luck.

Well she passed away yesterday
Half her tail fin was gone (the bottom part)

Don't know what hapenned. Anyway, I tried my best but i guess the water wasn't good enough for her :)

I'll wait for the tank to start cycling before i replace her.

Sorry for your loss, majority of us have been where you are at the moment, good luck.
