what is the difference between a zebra pleco and a false zebra pleco do they look the same. does one get bigger then the other.. differenct colors... any help that knows please help...

thanks andy

being perfectly - no other plec looks like a true zebra ;)

there are others with black and white markings , Cream and brown - but none with the stripes and striking contrast...

That most of the reason they can command a £200 price tag!

and it's exactly for that reason that importers, and some lfs owners will chuck the name 'zebra' onto anything they can...as it means they can probably add another few quid onto the asking price.

sad but true... :/

thanks i was looking at one that was for a 175 dollars and he was like an inch long is that a good price

That's overpriced if you ask me...but it doesn't really matter what others think. If you feel it's worth it then buy it, simple as.

what is a good price then im new to the game kinda well at least pleco

You would think with their popularity they would be bred alot more and they would be quite common. Do people just horde them so the price stays high?

Yeah I'm of the belief that if you're going to keep them, breed them. If you dont know how to breed them, or dont want to, dont keep them.

Plenty of nice looking little plecs out there for novices (like me!), but while these zebras are rare their price is going to stay extortionate.
