hi, ive had 8 zebra danios for about 3months and the past couple of days the are all chasing just one and there look like there are going to it, i havnt noticed this before apart from the normall chasing eachother but this time it look like they are all bullying just the one :(

hi, tank is 20 gallon, how do i find out what sex they are, unfortunatly i dont have anywhere i can quarentine the fish, i keep my tank at 25 degrees and the ammonia is 0 and the nitatre is 5 not sure about the others sorry, i have 4 swordtails, 1 flying fox, 8 zebra danios, and a small plec which i will rehouse when it gets over 6 inches long,

Hi.
How big is your tank?
Any idea of your distribution of males and females?
Can you quarentine the picked on one?
What are your water stats?
What other fishes in the tank?

I'd isolate the one being chased, possibly they've detected some weakness with him/her and want it out? Ask The Wolf, he's clever :dunno: I have the oppositeproblem, mine have become fairly shy :dunno:

I think you are over stocked and seeing the signs of agression between the danios. As OF said, if they have realised that one is weaker that one will get picked on as they try and sort some heirarchy.
Strange that it took 3 months for this to happen.
If you can't quarnetine the lone danio, you may have to look at rehousing some livestock.

If it really looks like its gonna die then you can isolate it in a mug or an empty bottle, no need for a separate tank or bowl. At least it won't be bugged by the others

if i put it into a bottle or something wont the water temperature drop also wouldnt i need some sort of filter in it

Oh right, I forgot about that. You may need a heater. (I don't have to bother about that coz I live in a warm, tropical city)
About filtration, change about 60% of the water everyday, and use water from the main tank. That should work.
I've done this myself, but people, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Female Zebra danios have a rounded belly, and males are very slim, they are NOT live bearers so cant actually be pregnant, but could be full of eggs, which they lay, and the males will fertalize etc...

I have 4 female zebra dainos, and 2 males, they never pick on eachother at all, and are very friendly, just see how it goes, good luck

Mark why don't you just get a 5g bucket and if you have an extra heater or get one you can put the fish and the heater in the bucket until you can do something about it.
