I have had 4 zebra danios in my 33 gal tank for the last 2 years and last week one got a bit thin and died, I put this down to just being a one off.

In the last few days, another one of my danios had got really thin and lost a lot of weight compared to the other two of the three remaining. There are no other signs of any illness on any of the fish in the tank and the zebra danio is definately eating fine.

I havent noticed anything wierd regarding the danios waste but I havent seen it go to the toilet lately.

Does anybody have any idea what illness this may be where one of the main symptoms is loss of weight?

I will try get a pic but its not easy, danios dont tend to stay still lol

Thanks for any help or advice in advance

Andy

Hi Andy

Could be natural die off. My danios all seem to pop off to fish heaven within a few weeks of each other once they're that age. You usually get left with one "old boy" danio who hangs on in there for ages. Then once you buy more new ones, the remaining old one seems to die.

If all your other fish seem ok then I reckon this is natural old age.

It could be old age. Also the spine can bend with old age.

Look out for these signs just to be on the safe side, as there signs of internal parasites.
Long stringy white poo or clear mucas poo.
Enlarged anus or red inflamed anus.
Being skinny or bloated.
Sunken in belly sometimes.
Bent spine sometimes.
Fish will sometimes swim on its side.
Worms prutruding from the anus.
