Hi all,

This morning when I woke up and observed my tank before feeding, i noticed that the zebra danios in my tank were going crazy. It looked like they were zipping through the water column in a whirlwind fashion with 4 of them chasing the smaller one, they were all extremely close and going around in like tight circles, the focus seems to be on the smaller danio, i think it may be female because the others seem to be longer and more slim and the one they are chasing is shorter and a little plumper. They are really unrelentless and im concerned because they just wont leave her alone. I've never seen this before, mostly because the tank was in a room where you couldnt easily view it. It looks quite aggressive in some ways.....

The other fish are their normal selves and they all fed well when food was offered.

Am i worrying too much? I know danios are very active and lively but never seen this type of targeting in the group before.

Thanks

Update - Shortly after writing the post I saw white gunky stuff floating in the water, and it looked like it had bubbles in it, then one of the danios ate some of it.

This kind of behaviour sounds a lot like the stereotypical behaviour of egg layers during spawning. Has the water gone cloudy at all? That's normally a tell tale sign that they are spawning.

Hello there,

well as they were darting around, I saw like a translucent/whitish material floating around, then some of the danios gobbled it up. Their behaviour has calmed down since then and they seem to be back to normal. They are no longer chasing the female. So i guess, i should stop panicking
